The launching of Subukia tree growing project in February this year and dispersion of a million seed balls in a record 2 hours was the beginning point and a game changer. The fact that 22 schools were involved and were well coordinated made a difference: Teachers and learners planned the 2 hours activity so well; pupils were properly inducted, seed balls were packaged, all tools prepared and the field where the seed balls were dispersed identified well ahead of the occasion. The Parish Priest and Mother Earth Subukia team prepared the Parishioners and the local administration while the Nairobi team engaged the National Government Officials and the Executive (The State House knew what Mother Earth was doing at Subukia through the First Lady whom we had contacted).

The Principal Secretary Ministry of Environment and Forestry sent a Senior Officer from his Ministry who read his written speech. The Council of Governors was well represented by Governor Dr. Ottichilo’s Chief Officer in-charge of Environment, Water and Natural resources. The Director General Nema was present and was the Chief Guest. A good number of professionals from various Environmental related organizations graced the occasion in support of Mother Earth initiatives. The event was also live on Capuchin TV and many Kenyans viewed the event. The participant were also excited by the presence of a special Aircraft that helped us disperse 400,000 seed balls in less than 20 minutes. All the 22 schools have also planted fruit trees through the courtesy of Mother Earth Network. The seed balls have sprouted and soon Subukia will receive better rains and eventually a good harvest and livelihood of the people will improve.
